We have received our first Tesla Powerwalls, Leading the Way in Battery Storage in North Carolina
Tesla Powerwall 2
On Monday, August 8, 2017 a shipment arrived at our headquarters in Cary, North Carolina. This was not just any shipment. This shipment came rolling down Electric Avenue, from the Tesla Gigafactory in Sparks, NV. Tesla Powerwall 2.
The journey of our shipment began in June 2014 when Tesla broke ground on the Gigafactory. The Gigafactory is located 0utside Sparks, Nevada and will be completed in phases. The construction phase was developed first to ensure production could get started right away in the finished space while expansion continued to accommodate (current and future) manufacturing needs. To put the enormity of the Gigafactory into perspective, there are more than 4.9 million square feet of operational space spread over multiple floors. With that, the Gigafactory is still only 30% complete. The Gigafactory is powered by 100% renewable energy and the goal is to achieve net-zero status.
What does the name Gigafactory represent? Well “Giga,” is a unit of measurement representing “billions.” According to Tesla.com, “The factory’s planned annual battery production capacity is 35 gigawatt-hours (GWh), with one GWh being the equivalent of generating (or consuming) 1 billion watts for one hour“.
