Solar 101 Program: How Solar Works for Churches and Synagogues.

North Carolina Interfaith Power and Light

Yes Solar Solutions will be presenting a Solar 101 program Thursday, May 17 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at United Church of Chapel Hill to representatives from houses of worship an churches who are interested in how solar works for churches and synagogues. The program, sponsored by the North Carolina of Interfaith Power and Light (NCIPL), the NC Sustainable Energy Association, and Duke Energy, is meant to support faith-based communities in learning how to develop solar programs to reduce energy costs and demonstrate their commitment to the care for creation.

Why Solar Makes Sense For Non-Profits

Right now, Duke is offering rebates of $50,000 t0 $75,000 depending on how systems are funded.  The presentation covers what kind of building has solar potential, the installation process, and a case study of the 84-kilowatt solar array at United Church of Chapel Hill, installed by Yes Solar.  UCCH raised all the money needed to invest in an 83-kilowatt solar system, making it the largest solar system on a faith community structure in North Carolina.  Solar covers multiple roofs and includes a trellis to make the solar visible to the community and congregation.  The energy being generated at the church covers about 69% of the building’s needs, more even than Yes estimated.

Yes Solar Solutions has installed solar on many houses of worship and can help a congregation with the tools to decide if solar is an option.  Call us at 919-459-4155 or visit our non-profit page to see some of our projects.
